5-year-old offers masked men his only dollar

A 5-year-old boy in Colorado Springs offered masked men his only dollar to try to get them to leave his mother alone.

According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, the detail was uncovered in court documents in a case against three men for the shooting death in June of Courtney Beaudette.

The court files said three armed and masked men broke into the Colorado Springs home of Beaudette and her son, demanding money.

“When she said she didn’t have any, the men told her to strip,” the newspaper said. “She took off her shirt but refused to go further.

“Amid the chaos, Beaudette’s son ran to his room to retrieve the only money he had, a single dollar bill,” the report said.

This infallible argument for armed self-defense presents real stories of Americans fighting back against criminals – and surviving because they were armed. “America Fights Back: Armed Self-Defense In A Violent Age” is a must-read for anyone who has ever wondered if concealed carry can actually save and protect.

However, the gun went off, Beaudette died of a gunshot wound to her head, and now three men, Michael Ryan Brown, 20; Matthew Robert Moore Jr., 19; and Dylan Michael Peters, 18; all of Colorado Springs, are facing charges.

The report said Moore is accused of pulling the trigger, and he told the other two the gun went off while Beaudette was “trying to grab it.”

The newspaper noted the public records are redacted, making some details are unclear, but there apparently was a fight at Beaudette’s apartment in a prelude to the break-in and alleged attempted holdup.

A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 13 and 14, the report said.
