Hi, Joseph. I noticed your recent column "Lighten up! Get a sense of humor!"
Roughly 10 years ago, I was struck by a line in a movie – probably a Schwarzenegger action film. A villain with a thick Slavic accent said sarcastically, "America, one big Oprah crybaby show!"
At the time it sounded comical. On the drive home from the theater it occurred to me how North Americans have become hypersensitive to everything imaginable. It was getting hard to be truthful for fear of upsetting a crybaby. Every time you turn around, newly invented euphemisms are replacing terms that were socially acceptable for centuries. This would be fine if there were solid evidence it was resulting in a more civil and less violent society.
