Of late, I've been referring to those who dig deeper into their own faith and companion holy text as being "devout." Radical implies one misinterpreting a text.
In the Muslim faith it is a more devout believer that learns what their holy book really stands for (bloodshed). In the Christian faith it is a more devout believer that becomes even more humble to the point of giving the robber his cloak in addition to his money.

Radical so-called Christians misinterpret the Bible. Radical Muslims are really just worldly and don't take their book seriously – but watch out for the "devout" Muslim.
