Deputy charged after K-9 dies in hot car

(WASHINGTON POST) The final task of Bak the police dog was aiding his handler during a traffic stop.

It was the evening of Aug. 3, a steamy summer night in Stephens County, Okla., and sheriff’s deputy Michael Peck used Bak, a German shepherd, to sniff out the vehicle.

The two had been partners for four years. They drove home at the end of their shift.
