After Demetrius Griffin Jr. missed his curfew Friday night, and after Sykes learned that police had discovered a burned body about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the 5500 block of West Cortez Street, Sykes was struck with the inexplicable certainty that mothers sometimes have about their children — a sinking feeling that the body was Demetrius'.
