(FREE BEACON) Hillary Clinton’s campaign announced Sunday night that it had cancelled joint events with both Clinton and her former primary rival Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.).
Clinton and Sanders were supposed to campaign in Iowa together on Monday, but now Sanders will campaign alone in the Hawkeye State with Clinton coming there later in the week without Sanders, the Hill reported. Clinton is in Ohio on Monday.
The news comes amid renewed tensions among Sanders loyalists, many of who are not eager to support Clinton over Donald Trump in the general election. In recently leaked audio obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, Clinton talks about Sanders supporters at a campaign fundraiser in February. Clinton characterizes them as “basement dwellers” who were left disappointed by the recession, adding that Sanders has offered young people “false promises.” When Sanders was asked about the leaked audio on Sunday, he said that he was disappointed with Clinton’s remarks, although he noted there was truth to them.
