(Eugene Register-Guard) University of Oregon professor Nancy Shurtz committed racial harassment when she donned blackface as part of a Halloween costume at her house on Oct. 31, a university investigation found.
She was not intending to be racist, the 29-page investigative report released Wednesday found.
But the incident since has devastated the law school — offending students, sparking angry discussions, and causing tearful faculty — and was so significant, it outweighed any right that Shurtz has to free speech and academic freedom, the report concluded.
