(USA Today) Esteban Santiago was formally charged with five murders in connection with the Jan. 6 shooting at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, according to a federal indictment released Thursday.
Santiago, 26, is charged in the 22-count complaint with five counts of causing death at an international airport. If convicted, he could receive a life sentence or the death penalty.
He is accused of opening fire at random in the baggage claim area of the airport shortly after arriving on a flight from Anchorage.
