[To Joseph Farah:] Why is is necessary to lie in order to hold fast to your conservative theology? ["'Gay' forever? 'Straight' forever?"]
I can't speak for Michael, and I think it's foolish to speak in absolutes where these things are concerned, but the vast majority of people who have tried to change their orientation have failed. Doesn't the story of Exodus International tell you anything? Can some gay people function heterosexually for a time? Clearly. Can people abstain from sex? Of course! But that's not the same thing as changing your innate sexual attractions.
Innate. Not necessarily genetic. Genetics are rarely a case of gene A = characteristic B anyway. The fact of the matter is we don't know how sexuality develops, at least not yet. Why do gay people seem to cling to the "born that way" theme? Because they no more chose their sexuality than you did yours. Like you, they simply discovered it as they matured. It's all they've ever known. And they're tired of being called liars by their "brothers and sisters" when they make that clear.

Why can't you accept the fact that for most people their sexuality is immutable, even if you do believe it to be a defect, a part of the "fall"? Do you castigate amputees, schizophrenics and cancer patients for failing to grow new limbs, alter their brain chemistry or shrink their tumors with prayer?
Perhaps you care more about being right than you do about people. I can't think of another reason for being so dismissive, recalcitrant and willfully ignorant.
