(WASHINGTON TIMES) Two high-profile Republicans reversed course Wednesday and said they now support the GOP plan to replace Obamacare, delivering President Trump and House leaders a much-needed boost as they scramble win over holdouts with extra money for Americans who might struggle to afford coverage under the plan.
Rep. Fred Upton, Michigan Republican who appeared to deliver a major blow to the health care effort by withdrawing his support for the bill on Tuesday, and Rep. Billy Long, a reliably conservative Republican from Missouri, announced their support after a meeting at the White House, according to multiple press reports.
They flipped after Mr. Upton proposed an amendment that would provide an additional $8 billion over five years to reduce premiums and out-of-pocket costs for people who are already sick and experienced a gap in coverage.
