WASHINGTON – CNN tracked down the Internet user who purportedly created the doctored video retweeted by President Trump in which he body-slams an opponent identified as “CNN” and is now threatening to release his private information unless he cooperates with their demands.
A Reddit.com user with the online pseudonym “HanA**holeSolo” was allegedly the source of the video, as he was the first to post it to the popular website.
Other reports dispute he was the creator of the video.
But CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski wrote an article announcing that CNN had discovered the personal information belong to “HanA**holeSolo” using snippets of evidence from gathered from his posting history on Reddit.
The article included the following statement:
“CNN is not publishing ‘HanA**holeSolo’s’ name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.'”
CNN then said it “reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.”

According to a tweet by Kaczynski, the apology only came after CNN contacted “HanA**holeSolo,” leading many to suspect his apology was coerced.

In a now deleted tweet, CNN’s Chris Cuomo implied a threat of coercion as well, writing: “Should CNN reveal name of Reddit user who made Trump wrestling video? Had a lot of bigoted and hateful material on page and website.”

The apparent coercion led to outrage across social media from liberals and conservatives alike, culminating in the creation of the hashtag #CNNBlackmail, which began trending on Twitter nearly instantly.
Donald Trump Jr. weighed in on the controversy, tweeting: “If only CNN spent as much time tracking down info on IRS targeting, Fast & Furious, Iran deal, etc as they did a meme writer!”

Wikileaks’ Julian Assange added to the controversy, suggesting CNN may have actually broken the law, tweeting: “CNN just committed a crime violating § 135.60 of the New York criminal code ‘coercion.'”

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, agreed that CNN’s stunt may be against the law.
(2/2) it’s a GA crime if they threatened to “Disseminate any information tending to subject any person to hatred, contempt, or ridicule….” https://t.co/ChxqocuDgc

State Rep. Scott Taylor, a Republican lawmaker in Virginia and a Navy SEAL, commented as well, writing “a line is crossed here.”
@CNN U basically coerce apology & threaten release of identity if something changes? Pretty sure a line is crossed here. #CNNBlackmail https://t.co/k4W9AepP6W

From the left, journalist Glenn Greenwald penned a scathing piece on the incident in The Intercept.
“There is something self-evidently creepy, bullying, and heavy-handed about a large news organization publicly announcing that it will expose someone’s identity if he ever again publishes content on the Internet that the network deems inappropriate or objectionable,” he wrote.
Scott Greer, author of “No Campus for White Men: The Transformation of Higher Education into Hateful Indoctrination” and an editor at the Daily Caller, blasted CNN’s response.
“This story touched a nerve with many people because it exposed a disturbing side to the establishment media – America’s biggest press gatekeepers are more concerned with policing the public than informing it,” Greer wrote.
“With North Korea launching an intercontinental ballistic missile, a health care bill vote looming, more chaos in the Middle East and a host of other pressing issues affecting the nation, CNN decided the most important story is the president tweeting a humorous video of him body-slamming the network,” Greer added.
Chris Buskirk, author of “American Greatness: How Conservatism Inc. Missed The 2016 Election & What The D.C. Establishment Needs To Learn,” told WND in an interview that left-wing media “exists to police a narrative that denigrates America, it’s history, and it’s people.”
“President Trump’s unapologetic embrace of America, his plan to advocate for her citizens and govern in their name and their name alone is not just an embarrassment to Washington’s permanent aristocracy, it is a threat to their worldview,” he said. “And so the media establishment has been at war with Donald Trump for two years and has shown time and time again that there is no depth to which they will not sink in their attempts to destroy the duly elected President of the United States.”
Buskirk continued, detailing how establishment media operates and has been exposed.
“Then due to the work of James O’Keefe and Project Veritas we found out that according to CNN producer John Bonifield the marching orders to talk about nothing Russia comes from the top, from CNN president Jeff Zucker. Why? Because from his perspective it’s a win-win: make a boatload of money peddling false allegations which also server an extreme left wing ideological agenda,” he said.
“Even one of CNN’s top personalities, Van Jones, a longtime left-wing political operative, described the whole Russia story on another Project Veritas tape as a nothing burger. On that at least, Van Jones and I can agree. But though the people at CNN know it is a nothing burger they continue to push the narrative because they think they can use it to pull the wool over the American people’s eyes, destroy a Republican president, overturn the election, and make a little money at the same time,” Buskirk added.
And when Trump fights back against the media, CNN cannot help but retaliate with an “Alinskyite gutter war.”
“They threatened to dox the person – perhaps a minor – who created the original video and posted it online. That is to say, they threatened to release his name and personal details publicly. Why? Because if they do that, they know the tolerant left will do the rest. CNN knows that the meme-creator’s life will become a living hell. His phone will ring 24 hours a day, his voicemail will be filled with the most vile threats against himself and his family, and thugs will show up at his home and place of employment. He will be hounded out of society by anti-Trump forces and sent into hiding. In essence, CNN has issued a threat: Satirize your betters and we’ll come after you. Criticize us and we will make make sure your life is unbearable. We’ll make you unemployable,” Buskirk stated.
“CNN’s threats to dox the person who made that meme are chilling indeed.”
