Dreamers and Irma

Pat Buchanan:

I always enjoy and learn a great deal reading your columns.

Down in Naples, Florida, where I am a well-established financial adviser, I know a lot of dreamers. I have mentored quite a few. One in particular graduated from high school, attended FGCU and graduated; he now works 65 hours a week for Enterprise rental cars.

For the Hurricane Irma cleanup, I would guess between 50 and 75 percent of the labor will be these guys and gals.

I worked in my yard for three days to clean it up but needed my tree guy to get a limb off my garage. Without this Dreamer’s help, I’m not sure how we would have completed our cleanup.

My point is at the ground level, you have to wonder if you were born in the USA and you are not successful it is not the fault of the Dreamers; it is your fault, plain and simple.

Given all this we need to control the supply and demand of labor. Going forward we need to be diligent in our border enforcement and grow the GDP by 4 percent or better.
