Scores of dogs were left to die in Irma

(NYPOST) Florida authorities want to press felony prosecutions against heartless dog owners who left their pooches outside to fend for themselves against deadly Hurricane Irma.

Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control officers were fortunate enough to scoop up 40 dogs – many of them tied to poles or left in outside pens, officials said.

“There is absolutely no excuse for doing that,” agency Director Dianne Sauve said.
