When Grammy-winning rapper and record producer Kanye West said he loved President Trump, all of Hades broke loose on Twitter – but his confession is sparking what appears to be a revolt among “free-thinking” people who refuse to be forced into a political box based on their race, religion, gender, sexual identity or profession.

“You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him,” West tweeted Wednesday. “We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.”

“Thank you Kanye, very cool!” Trump responded to West’s tweet.

Kanye, who said he also “love[s] Hillary too,” added: “I don’t agree with everything Trump does. I don’t agree 100% with anyone but myself.”

Critics immediately pounced on West, some suggesting he has “gone off the deep end” or that his support is “a publicity stunt” or that “West does not care about black people.”

But then even Chance the Rapper – who has criticized President Trump publicly – tweeted: “Black people don’t have to be democrats.”

Chance the Rapper’s response triggered a theme on the social media platform, as others began expressing support for freedom of political thought for various groups.

“Jewish people don’t have to be democrats either,” tweeted Times of Israel blogger and Daily Wire writer Elliott Hamilton.

“Gay people don’t have to be democrats either,” tweeted gay and Jewish author Chad Felix Greene.

“Immigrants don’t either,” tweeted Anna Khait

And it didn’t end there:

Several Twitter users pointed out that just because you don’t have to be a Democrat doesn’t mean being a Republican is the only other option.

Angee, an African-American woman whose bio describes her as an “open-minded human being,” responded to Chance the Rapper: “What black people don’t know that? I’ve never in my life thought that I had to be a Democrat. There are other options [sic] be independent, be a libertarian, be the Green party there are other options. Who doesn’t know that?”

In fact, Chance the Rapper may be a third-party voter. He also tweeted, “Next President gon be independent.”

Reality TV personality Kim Kardashian, who is married to Kanye West, chimed in with some words for critics of the rapper who say he’s having a mental breakdown.

“He’s a free thinker,” Kardashian tweeted, “is that not allowed in America? Because some of his ideas differ from yours you have to throw in the mental health card? That’s just not fair. He’s actually out of the sunken place when he’s being himself which is very expressive.”
