'Sabotage': Dems say Trump killing Obama's 'legacy'

It had nothing to do with the fact that Iran was revealed by Israel only a week ago to be lying about its nuclear program.

Nothing to do with widespread concerns over the absence of prompt inspection opportunities at key Iranian nuclear sites.

Nothing to do with doing the best to protect America from Iran's development of nuclear warheads. Or protecting U.S. allies in the region.

It was all because President Trump wanted to undermine Barack Obama's legacy.

That's why he announced Tuesday the U.S. is withdrawing from the Iran nuclear agreement and reinstating sanctions that the U.S. had lifted from Tehran, Democrats claimed.

Trump had called the agreement negotiated by John Kerry and adopted by Obama, without action on the part of Congress, the "worst deal ever."

Trump explained the dail failed to address concerns involving Tehran's ballistic missile program, its nuclear program after the year 2025 or the nation's role in ongoing struggles in in Yemen and Syria.

Trump said, "The so-called Iran deal was supposed to protect the United States and our allies from the lunacy of an Iranian nuclear bomb, a weapon that will only endanger the survival of the Iranian regime. In fact, the deal allowed Iran to continue enriching uranium and over time reach the brink of a nuclear blackout."

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee immediately took to social media to explain to Americans why Trump took the action.

"To sabotage President Obama's legacy."

In fact, it was "all" done "to sabotage President Obama's legacy."

Trump and his Republicans will go down in history as the party that destroyed our country's credibility, ruined our global reputation, and made the world a more dangerous place — all to sabotage President Obama's legacy.

That would be the legacy that included Obamacare, now rapidly disintegrating, the Paris climate accord, now abandoned by the U.S. as unfair, and the Iran nuclear deal, now being dropped.

In fact, one pundit noted that Obama's actual legacy – the result of his two terms in office – likely can be described in two words: Trump's presidency.

Talk-radio icon Rush Limbaugh spoke of the impact of Trump's announcement: "This was right between the eyes. ... When it actually happens, the power of this, it hit me. ... This is dramatic what happened just now. To realize a major accomplishment of the Obama administration has just been erased, this is a big deal," he said.

"I felt a surge of pride when he did it. ... Trump knows full well how he is taunting the beast with this. ... The Obama legacy to America is the Trump administration. ... They never really expected this to happen."

Trump's announcement likely means that U.S. sanctions will be reinstated against Iran, although Trump did confirm he'd be willing to work on a new – and more reasonable – agreement.

Obama claimed Trump's action would put the U.S. "at odds" with its allies around the globe.

On social media site Twitchy was the comment, "The DCC has officially lost it."

It continued, "'Trump and his Republicans' didn't need to 'sabotage President Obama's legacy.' President Obama and his minions did that all on their own."

The move by President Trump was easily accomplished because Obama had failed to take the agreement to Congress for its approval, meaning it was strictly on his own initiative that any such agreement ever was reached.

Added Twitchy, "And as far as making 'the world a more dangerous place' is concerned, well, DCCC, you can thank Obama for that, too."

Obama, who more than any other president in recent decades has tried to influence his successor on issues dealing with his own legacy, wrote pages of commentary and posted them online complaining about Trump's actions.

Obama described his work as "a model for what diplomacy can accomplish – its inspections and verification regime is precisely what the United States should be working to put in place with North Korea. Indeed, at a time when we are all rooting for diplomacy with North Korea to succeed, walking away from the JCPOA risks losing a deal that accomplishes – with Iran – the very outcome that we are pursuing with the North Koreans."

North Korea, in fact, has said it is willing to drop its own nuclear program even in advance of planned meetings with President Trump.

In fact, Americans held hostage there were expected to be released imminently, based on Trump's foreign policy.

Obama lashed out at the president for "consistent flouting" of agreements Obama imposed.

He admitted the agreement "was never intended to solve all of our problems with Iran," such as its support for terror and threats toward Israel.

But he called Trump's action "a serious mistake."

Obama credited "our diplomats, many members of Congress, and our allies" with achieving the agreement.

Liberty Counsel, which advocates regularly for Israel, which Iran has expressly stated should be removed from the map, points out Iran originally negotiated the deal "in bad faith."

"Intelligence recently released by Israel provides compelling details about Iran’s past secret efforts to develop nuclear weapons, which it lied about for years. The JCPOA failed to deal with the threat of Iran’s missile program and did not include a strong enough mechanism for inspections and verification," the organization announced.

"We strongly support President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from this unacceptable Iran deal," said Mat Staver, chairman of Liberty Counsel, president of Christians in Defense of Israel, and chairman of Covenant Journey. "The only country that benefited from the Iran deal was Iran. The Obama administration lied to the American people and the world, airlifted hundreds of millions of dollars in cash to Iran during the night, and watched Iran’s continued march toward its goal of becoming a nuclear threat. The nuclear deal gave Iran, the world’s foremost state-sponsor of terrorism, a clear path to an atomic arsenal. This deal should never have been concluded. President Trump’s decision reverses Obama’s failed foreign policy and protects Americans and our closest allies in the Middle-East from this malicious regime."

The New York Times had opined, "Mr. Trump's decision unravels the signature foreign policy achievement of his predecessor, Barack Obama, isolating the United States among its allies and leaving it at even greater odds with its adversaries in dealing with the Iranians," to which Twitchy responded, "The …. paragraph cracked us up ... NYT couldn't even report the facts about the withdrawal without voicing their dis[ap]proval. They might as well have asked for someone to think about the children."
