The socialist congressional candidate whose primary-election upset of a Democratic House leader made national news this week claimed Israel committed a “massacre” of Palestinians in Gaza, despite the admission of Hamas that most of the dead were Hamas operatives.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 28, wrote in a May 14 tweet that the killing of some 60 Palestinians in “March of Return” protests that day was a “massacre” and that “no state or entity is absolved of mass shootings of protesters,” reported the Jewish News Syndicate.
“There is no justification. Palestinian people deserve basic human dignity, as anyone else,” she said. “Democrats can’t be silent about this anymore.”
Hamas leaders, however, later admitted that at least 50 of those killed were members of the terror group.
Ocasio-Cortez, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America party, defeated Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y., for the Democratic nomination in New York’s 14th congressional district Tuesday despite being outspent 10 to 1.
The Democratic Socialists of America supports the BDS movement, the boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign against Israel.
Robert Spencer, director of Jihad Watch, commented on Ocasio-Cortez’s tweet: “This is the Left, and the Democrat Party today: the facts just don’t matter. The only thing that matters is the narrative that reinforces their preconceptions.”
Crowley is the No. 4 Democrat in the House of Representatives and was regarded as a leading candidate for the top leadership position next year.
In a statement, the Jewish Democratic Council of America objected to Ocasio-Cortez’s stance on Israel.
“We disagree with her past statement regarding Israel, as well as her affiliation with the Democratic Socialists of America, which supports the boycott, divestment and sanctions [BDS] movement targeting Israel. In the coming days and months, we hope to learn more about Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s views, but at the moment, her position on Israel is not in line with our values.”
This is a massacre.
I hope my peers have the moral courage to call it such.

WND reported the Israel Defense Forces released a video of a Palestinian man, described as a Hamas terrorist, explaining how the terrorist organization that controls Gaza incites residents to engage in violent protest against Israel.
WND reported a Hamas terrorist admitted a Hamas leader paid a family to falsely claim the dead baby that Palestinians used to generate international outrage was killed by Israeli tear gas.
In an interview with Al Jazeera at the time of the protest, senior Hamas official Mahmoud Al-Zahhar said that when Palestinian leaders talk about “peaceful resistance” against Israel, “we are deceiving the public.”
“This is a peaceful resistance bolstered by a military force and by security agencies, and enjoying tremendous popular support,” he said.
He said the “peaceful resistance” of the rival Fatah movement, which governs Judea and Samaria, also know as the West Bank, “consists of rallies, demonstrations, protests, pleas, and requests, in order to improve the terms of the negotiations, or to enable talks with the Israeli enemy.”
“This deception does not fool the Palestinian public,” he said.
Prior to the border clash Monday on what the Palestinians call “Nakba Day,” the “catastrophe” of Israel’s founding 70 years ago, dozens of social media posts called for Palestinians to bring guns and knives to the protest, knock down the border fence, kidnap Israeli civilians and hand them over to Hamas.
A spokesman for the IDF said Hamas deployed 12 separate terrorist cells to try to breach the border at different locations.
Video footage posted by the IDF shows Gaza rioters destroying the security fence on the border with Israel.
