Back in my "mainstream" media days, working primarily in the New York and L.A. markets, I never missed the big entertainment shows – from the Oscars to the Emmys to the Tonys to the Grammys.
But that was a long time ago. Today, I avoid them like the plague.
Why would I want to be offended by a bunch of know-nothing prima donnas who really think they are "socially conscious" and politically savvy?

So, I definitely missed the MTV Movie and TV Awards show June 18 – wasn't even a consideration for me to watch. I'm sick of seeing the trashing of President Trump and a bunch of nincompoops degrading our country by spoiled brat celebrities who live in their own insulated world of phony coolness and comfort.
But there was a shocker on this show. You should see the four-minute clip if you want your spirits boosted.

It was the acceptance speech by 39-year-old actor Chris Pratt of the "Generation Award." I note that the YouTube video of his remarks has been watched by millions – and that is a good thing.
What did Pratt do that was so unusual?

Here are the verbatim highlights that were sandwiched between some other goofy advice to the younger generation in what he called "the nine rules from Chris Pratt."
- "You have a soul. Be careful with it."
- He preached humility.
- He preached working hard to earn things.
- He preached being of service to others: "reach out to someone in pain."
- "God is real. He loves you. He wants the best for you. Believe that. I do."
- "Learn to pray. It's easy and it's good for your soul."
- "And if you're willing to accept that, you will have grace. And grace is a gift that was paid for by someone else's blood."
The even better news was how well that advice was appreciated by the audience.
Yes, Chris Pratt has admitted he is a sinner saved by grace, someone who was living an immoral lifestyle but repented and become a Christian believer. And he's not ashamed to proclaim it publicly.
Pratt worked as a male stripper and ended up homeless – a drunkard pot smoker who got a break at 19 when he was waiting tables at a restaurant in Maui, discovered by actress-director Rae Dawn Chong who cast him in a short horror film. That led to television roles and, later, some very successful film roles, making him one of the hottest actors in Hollywood.

Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people on the planet. Last year he got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Does all this mean he's my new role model for America's youth? No. But he sure beats the competition. He's like a breath of fresh air in an industry that is politically correct and spiritually repugnant.
Proclaiming your faith is Jesus in Hollywood is not a way to endear yourself to the powers that be. It's not a career-advancement move. Trust me. Even back in the 1980s I was like a fish out of water as I worked in the media and hung out with the Hollywood glitterati. But it is much worse today – so little diversity, so much intolerance.
So, watch this four-minute message where Chris Pratt meets his audience right where they are with the essential truth of the Gospel – the life-changing and world-changing message of redemption.

It doesn't change my mind about corrupt nature of Hollywood. But it sure give me hope that God is working miracles everywhere – even in a culture of materialism, depravity and decadence
