The Washington Free Beacon has compiled a montage of jaw-dropping statements by avowed democratic socialist candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who shocked Democratic Party incumbent Joe Crowley in the June primary election for the 14th congressional district in New York.
The chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Tom Perez, has praised Ocasio-Cortez as “the future” of his party. And she has been campaigning across the nation for progressive candidates with Sen. Bernie Sanders, a declared socialist who drew the most enthusiastic following in the 2016 Democratic Party presidential primary race.
In one of the clips in the Free Beacon video, she declares: “Capitalism has not always existed in the world and it will not always exist.”
Positions espoused by Ocasio-Cortez that once were considered fringe have moved into the party’s platform, such as single-payer health care and a federal jobs guarantee for every citizen.
However, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said he spoke with the 28-year-old candidate by phone and advised her that not every district is as open as New York’s 14th to far-left ideas, Roll Call reported.
The Conservative Review network CRTV spliced together a satirical interview with Ocasio-Cortez and published it on Facebook, generating over 1 million views. The video was not labeled satire, and it drew comments from many viewers who thought it was real.
