The New York Republic and its Marxist values

By Kent G. Bailey

“Affirmative action, favoring certain groups over others, diversity, multiculturalism, radicalism, liberalism, progressivism and the like are more consequences of values than definitions of them. These are more pie-in-the-sky, majority-hating and minority-loving illusions and delusions than anything else. They are all the means by which the Republic of New York is transforming the 50 states into its own image of a Marxist Eden of social change and aversion to tradition.” – Kent Bailey

The Marxist left drones on and on about its superior “values” in contrast to the implicitly inferior ones of the Founding Fathers, the Constitution, Christians and traditionalist Americans in general. When the left attacks the “deplorables,” Bible-thumping simpletons, gun-toting truck lovers, racists, homophobes, white people and the like – it is all a matter of values.

For over a century, the left has labored quietly in the shadows and under the mantra of “change” to first alter and modify and then supplant and replace the Christian values that made America great in the first place. For sure, until recently, America was – by a monumental margin – the greatest nation in the history of the world and, indeed, the greatest Christian nation ever. Now we are a post-Christian nation suffering its first real identity crisis.

Prior to radio, television and now the internet and its handy smartphones, people just ambled along happy and secure in their Christian and European values, and personal beliefs were essentially secure. Factions with differing, foreign and disruptive ideas simply could not access the everyday person, and “change” for the sake of change was minimal.

Now TV and the internet have wormed their way into every aspect of daily life and exert overwhelming control over our daily behavior, our religious and moral beliefs and, yes, our values. The result has been catastrophic because those who control TV and internet rarely share values with traditional Americans and, moreover, use their powerful resources to spread their “foreign” values in ads, television programming, movies, “fake news” and sundry other ways. The left now has a powerful mechanism for control and change, and they are using it to the fullest.

A century ago, a young man might have to ride a horse for 20 miles to engage in sexual sin, but now there are thousands of pornography sites that can come instantaneously into your child’s bedroom, an adult’s workplace, or even your pastor’s study! There is no escape from the morally corrosive powers of a Marxist-dominated info-world with its tentacles reaching into every nook and cranny of the human personality and soul.

Our counter-arguments are of little effect when we blithely generalize about the nefarious “left,” girly-minded liberals, or godless progressives – we need to be more specific in identifying the goals and values of those who are changing America into the current Marxist Eden of social change.

I see the Marxist-dominated New York Republic as the major player in the current “change America” sweepstakes. As a prosecutor for the right might sum up the case – “the Republic has the opportunity, the will and the means to change America in its own Marxist image, and is clearly doing so.”

The ideological left in politics is associated with egalitarianism, popular or state control of the major institutions of political and economic life, identification with the poor and disadvantaged, and tends to be secular and often hostile to religion – especially Christianity. It thrives on disruption, protest, revolution and “change.”

Most leftists of the world are socialists who are less extreme than hardcore communists and tend to allow ownership of personal property and ambivalent relations with capitalism. However, socialism should be viewed as an ideological sister and transition phase on the pathway to communism.

So, what are the mysterious and unstated “values” of New York City – the capital of the New York Republic and perhaps even the entire world? I prefer the term “Marxist values,” which are tied to one “heroic” figure (Karl Marx), are socialist to the core, are hostile to tradition and religion, and serve as a kind of silent and shadow version of communism. Had Hillary been elected, this latent communism would have slowly slithered out of the shadows. Donald Trump rudely saved us from this fate.

New Yorkers are rather open about being a separate entity, which I call the New York Republic. In 2004 Jennifer Senior published a telling essay in New York magazine entitled “The Independent Republic of New York.” It began with a quote from Woody Allen’s “Annie Hall”: “Don’t you see? The rest of the country looks upon New York like we’re left-wing, communist, Jewish, homosexual pornographers. I think of us that way sometimes and I live here.” She opined that the Republic shares little with the USA and is more like a cosmopolitan European country. In fact, talk of “seceding” from America is not uncommon!

Professor of history Maurice Isserman’s recent article “When New York City Was the Capital of American Communism” is especially telling. He says that from the 1930s until the 1950s, New York City was the one place where American communists could gather in camaraderie and enjoy hopes of a mass movement. New York “values” were communist to the core. These values did not disappear after the ’50s but just went underground amid hopes of future revival. Donald Trump’s election victory dashed hopes for such a revival, and this is the source of much of the rage against him.

I believe that the socialist, Marxist and communist-lite “values” of the New York Republic are not only foreign and socially dangerous, but “evil,” following Jesse Lee Peterson’s line of argument. The last thing we want are crypto-Marxist New York “values” to subvert the Christian values that have sustained our nation from its inception.
