The Trump administration took a bold step towards eradicating discrimination by revoking race-based college admissions.
Last week, the administration quashed Obama-era guidelines which encourage colleges and universities to count race as a factor in their admissions policy. The Obama guidelines instructed colleges to use race in efforts to diversify their student bodies and outlined ways to skirt the law. The Trump administration seeks to promote a race-neutral approach.
In a joint letter, the Education and Justice Departments announced they had rescinded seven Obama-era policy guidelines on affirmative action, which, the departments said, “advocate policy preferences and positions beyond the requirements of the Constitution.”
The Obama administration, and leftists in general, have been obsessed with race-based preference programs as means to infiltrate white-led institutions. They’ve used affirmative action (and quotas) as battering rams to get unqualified blacks into prestigious colleges. This practice discriminates against whites – especially white males – and creates resentment. It also makes people question whether blacks are earning their way.
The Trump administration is taking a great first step to encourage schools to treat all applicants fairly.
As expected, Democrats and liberal “civil rights” organizations denounced the administration’s decision and they’re crying “racism.” House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said the “rollback of vital affirmative action guidance offends our nation’s values” and called it “yet another clear Trump administration attack on communities of color.”
This is a flat-out lie. The protections from discrimination on the basis of race remain in place. The Trump administration is fixing a blatant overreach by the Obama administration which encouraged discrimination against whites, and tried to skirt around the Supreme Court ruling on race-based admissions. The Trump administration’s decision is applying the law as it was intended.
The Supreme Court ruling does allow race and ethnicity as one factor in a series of factors schools may consider during the admissions process, but revoking the Obama-era guidelines allows colleges the freedom to re-consider their bad policies.
Liberals reject the argument that affirmative action has gone too far; in fact, for them, it hasn’t gone far enough. They’re obsessed with racial preference programs, and they want guaranteed outcomes.
According to the Atlantic, since 1980 whites and Asians have been overrepresented at the most selective colleges, while Latinos and blacks have been underrepresented. Although there are gains at less selective institutions, the colleges and universities that produce an outsized share of leaders in technology, law, academia, and business still have few Native American, black and Latino students.
So, instead of encouraging blacks to make good lifestyle choices and develop habits which will help them succeed (i.e., raising children within the framework of marriage and hard work), liberals want to lower standards. If white and Asian students can earn the grades to get accepted into the “most selective” colleges, why can’t blacks? Do liberals believe that blacks are incapable or genetically inferior?
I grew up on a plantation in Alabama in the 1950s. Despite slavery and Jim Crow laws, the black family was intact and blacks excelled. I have family members who have a truckload of kids, and they made sure their children learned to work and got educated. Many graduated from black colleges and they became teachers and doctors. Those who didn’t go to college learned a trade and got good paying jobs; some started businesses. The only differences between blacks of my generation and this generation is that most blacks today are immoral, and black men have allowed their families to be decimated by liberalism.
If liberals truly want blacks to succeed, they would encourage them to get married and be responsible. They wouldn’t encourage laziness, blame, hate, and victimhood.
Most colleges don’t prepare students for real life. They’ve become dangerous socialist cesspools that promote group think. They have zero tolerance for opposing views.
Leftists are extreme, and they’re extremely intolerant of people who don’t adopt their world-view. There are hundreds of known attacks against Trump supporters by leftist thugs, yet the mainstream media won’t report it.
I receive emails and calls from white students and professors from colleges and universities across the country with horror stories of how they’re being attacked because they won’t march lock step with the left’s anti-American, anti-Christian and anti-family agenda. For the most part, whites are not allowed to critique homosexuals, ethnic minorities, Muslims and women – if they dare utter a critique, they’re ostracized and fired.
It’s not just white students being discriminated against, but Asians as well. A highly anticipated case is pitting Harvard against Asian-American students who say one of the nation’s most prestigious institutions has systematically excluded some Asian-American applicants to maintain slots for students of other races.
Trump administration’s decision on affirmative action and the retirement of Justice Anthony M. Kennedy has the left in a panic. Kennedy’s departure will leave the Supreme Court without its liberal swing vote on affirmative action while allowing President Trump to nominate a more conservative justice.
Race-based college admissions are unjust and un-American. They’re discriminatory against whites. They foster intolerance and group-think. These policies also stigmatize and water down the accomplishments of those they intend to help. It’s time to completely do away with race-based admission policies in colleges and universities.
