WASHINGTON – David Horowitz’s Freedom Center has announced MasterCard and Visa have backed down from their decision not to accept donations to the conservative organization – a threat Rush Limbaugh believes represents the next big wave of corporate efforts to destroy opposition to the leftist juggernaught dominating technology, media, academia and other powerful cultural and business institutions.
”And after 2 days of meetings with our attorneys I have good news and bad news,” said Horowitz, a former Communist who switched political sides during the Reagan administration, to his supporters. The good news is they’re backing down. The bad news is this is just the beginning of the most brutal battle for the future of our country.”
He added: “We’ve seen just how far they’ll go to silence anyone that dares question them. And with the midterms around the corner and their ongoing assault on our President and anyone that supports him, we need to be prepared to fight like we’ve never fought before.”
The Freedom Center is not the only conservative organization that has seen Mastercard and Visa deny donors the ability to make transactions. Robert Spencer, leader of Jihad Watch, earlier had his donation processing blocked by Visa and Mastercard through the funding platform Patreon.
Rush Limbaugh has warned other financial institutions – including banks – are denying loans based on support of the National Rifle Association and gun ownership.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, a group that labels conservatives across the board as “haters,” “fascists” and “white supremacists,” has been identified as an adviser to MasterCard and Visa. The group is also works closely with Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Apple and Amazon, which have all boycotted and censored conservative voices.
“It’s the same principle here,” said Limbaugh Friday. “Who is the Southern Poverty Law Center? The Southern Poverty Law Center sets itself up as the arbiter of which groups in America are hate-sponsored, hate-filled, and hate-promoting. And it’s practically every conservative organization out there. And here these corporations come along, and they don’t even challenge it! Southern Poverty Law Center says X is a hate group, they just accept it, and they act accordingly.”
No. 1 on the SPLC’s enemies list is President Trump.
“This is exactly how the battle over your guns and getting them away from you is being waged,” said Limbaugh. “Corporations are not brave. Corporations try to find out which way the wind is blowing and get right in it. They don’t want to buck trends. They don’t want to be against the wind. And they want to be perceived as hip. So, climate change, they’re all-in – whether they believe it or not, they want people to think they do. And it’s leftist causes that they even get bullied into supporting.”
Last April, the Wall Street Journal broke a story about how the major financial institutions are discriminating against gun owners.
Banks and credit-card companies are discussing ways to identify purchases of guns in their payment systems, a move that could be a prelude to restricting such transactions, according to people familiar with the talks.
“The financial companies have explored creating a new credit-card code for firearms dealers, similar to how they code restaurants or department stores, according to people familiar with the matter,” the report said.
“Another idea would require merchants to share information about specific firearm products consumers are buying, some of the people said.”
A spokesman for Bank of America told the Journal the bank’s policy is to stop making new loans to manufacturers of certain kinds of semiautomatic rifles sold to civilians.
