Actor Alec Baldwin, perhaps best known these days for portraying President Donald Trump on “Saturday Night Live,” is now calling for the “overthrow” of the current U.S. government, at least with Trump at the helm.

“The way we implement change in America is through elections,” Baldwin said Sunday night at the New Hampshire Democratic Party’s Eleanor Roosevelt Dinner in Manchester, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader.

“In that orderly way, we need to overthrow the government of the United States under Donald Trump. Not in a violent, awful way, but it must be overthrown nonetheless. Let’s make America great again, by making Donald Trump a casino operator again.”

After his speech, Baldwin talked with reporters and noted it still boggles his mind that Trump is commander in chief.

“For me, every day I wake up, I still am horrified,” Baldwin said.

“I feel like I’m in some dream where Trump is the president. In New York, Donald Trump is not a punch line. He’s not a joke. He is nothing. He went on a TV show for many years and convinced middle America that he was this crack businessman.”

Republicans had denounced Baldwin’s appearance in advance of the dinner.

“(Sunday) night, New Hampshire Democrats will celebrate with comedian Alec Baldwin, a man well known for his homophobic and sexist remarks, as well as his bullying,” said NHGOP Chairman Wayne MacDonald in a statement.

“Surely, with a Democrat field as talented for 2020 as the Democrats claim, a better, less controversial, speaker could have been arranged. Will Molly Kelly, Ann Kuster, and Chris Pappas denounce Alec Baldwin’s hateful comments by not attending the fundraiser? The new Democrat normal, exemplified by the likes of Alec Baldwin and Michael Avenatti, won’t go unnoticed by voters this November.”

In May, as WND reported, Baldwin made a bold claim, saying he would “without a doubt” defeat the president if he were to run against him in 2020.

The “Hunt for Red October” star, appearing on “The Daniel Baldwin Show,” said, “Oh, absolutely, positively, I could beat [Trump] without a doubt in my mind.”

“You know, I am somebody who … you think I want the United States to lay down and die and not have a strong defense? That’s preposterous. I am not going to come in there and say we have to walk around with our hand tied behind our back. The world is too dangerous for that.”

The veteran of TV and film added: “It would be the most exciting election we have had in ages – exciting. It’s an exciting idea. But the thing is, you lose your life. I have got little kids. My wife would never go for it.”

Irrespective of who gets the nomination to take on Trump two years from now, Baldwin said the secret to beating the president is to never “mention his name,” focusing instead on what specific plans the challenger has to offer.

“If you went out on a campaign trail and tried to state the obvious … everything that’s hateful and suspicious and all the condemnation of Trump has already been said. He is the most criticized president in history, other than Nixon,” Baldwin said. “Trump’s election is one of the greatest tragedies in history.”
