On the same evening Alec Baldwin promoted the "overthrow" of the current U.S. government through elections, the actor had a dismal performance in ratings for the premiere of his new TV show on ABC.
The Nielsen ratings service said "The Alec Baldwin Show" on Sunday reaped a 0.4 rating among adults 18-49, the demographic most coveted by advertisers.
It was the lowest-rated program for that demo group of any broadcast network, including the CW.
Fox News reported: "By comparison, NBC's 'Sunday Night Football' matchup between the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs earned a 6.1 rating among adults 18-49, CBS' '60 Minutes' -- which featured an interview with the president -- drew a 1.9 rating and the CW premieres of 'Supergirl' and the reboot of 'Charmed' each drew a 0.5 rating.
Baldwin's show had a total of 2.2 million viewers, and featured an interview with actor Robert De Niro, who has been known for his disdain for President Trump, going so far as to blare "F--- Trump" earlier this year on another broadcast.
"Everything [Trump] says about other people, 'You're a loser. You're a this. You're a that,' is everything he's saying about himself," De Niro said on Baldwin's show. "He's so transparent. He's projecting."
The poor ratings for Baldwin did not go unnoticed by some in the media.
"He's in a dead heat with Univision, which is Spanish-speaking," mocked Brian Kilmeade of "Fox & Friends."
T. LaDuke at RedState.com noted: "Alec and Robert De Niro got beat by 'Supergirl' and 'Charmed.' Someone pass the crying towel over to the executive at ABC who thought this was a good idea.
"Baldwin won an Emmy last year for his portrayal of Trump on 'Saturday Night Live' so I imagine this seemed like a safe bet to hire him for an interview show but let's face it. Alec Baldwin is good when people write things for him to say, not when he has to think of them on the fly. Unless of course, he is yelling at a reporter or his daughter."
In March, President Trump actually tweeted about Baldwin, taking note of his impressions of him on "SNL."
"Alec Baldwin, whose dying mediocre career was saved by his terrible impersonation of me on SNL, now says playing me was agony," Trump wrote. "Alec, it was agony for those who were forced to watch. Bring back Darrell Hammond, funnier and a far greater talent!"
As WND reported Monday, Baldwin also called for the "overthrow" of the government through elections.
"The way we implement change in America is through elections," Baldwin said Sunday night at the New Hampshire Democratic Party's Eleanor Roosevelt Dinner, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader.
"In that orderly way, we need to overthrow the government of the United States under Donald Trump. Not in a violent, awful way, but it must be overthrown nonetheless. Let's make America great again, by making Donald Trump a casino operator again."
After his speech, Baldwin talked with reporters and noted it still boggles his mind that Trump is commander in chief.
"For me, every day I wake up, I still am horrified," Baldwin said.
"I feel like I'm in some dream where Trump is the president. In New York, Donald Trump is not a punch line. He's not a joke. He is nothing. He went on a TV show for many years and convinced middle America that he was this crack businessman."
In May, Baldwin boldly claimed he would "without a doubt" defeat the Trump if he were to run against him in 2020.
"Oh, absolutely, positively, I could beat [Trump] without a doubt in my mind," he said.
"You know, I am somebody who ... you think I want the United States to lay down and die and not have a strong defense? That's preposterous. I am not going to come in there and say we have to walk around with our hand tied behind our back. The world is too dangerous for that."
The 60-year-old veteran of TV and film added: "It would be the most exciting election we have had in ages – exciting. It's an exciting idea. But the thing is, you lose your life. I have got little kids. My wife would never go for it."
