Cow's milk a symbol of white supremacy?

That's the claim not only of the animal rights group People for Ethical Treatment of Animals but also researchers featured in a report by the New York Times.

PETA on Friday renewed its claim that dairy milk is a symbol of white supremacists.

The group retweeted a blog post from 2017 linking to a story by the Metro tabloid of London that said "white supremacists have been proudly declaring that they're 'lactose tolerant,' and are adding 'glass of milk' emojis into their Twitter names."

PETA writes in the 2017 post that cow's milk is the "perfect drink for all supremacists," because the dairy industry "inflicts extreme violence" on the cows to get the milk.

Meanwhile, a New York Times feature Oct. 17 headlined "Why White Supremacists Are Chugging Milk (and Why Geneticists Are Alarmed)" reports geneticists fear white supremacists manipulating research into a gene that enables people to tolerate lactose. Researchers have found the trait is more common in white people than in others.
