People going to fast-food restaurants often have a super-size appetite, but the last thing they want to be accused of is having an actual super size on their bodies.

But that was the case for Jimmy Shue, who was called “Chubby” at a Wendy’s restaurant in Gastonia, North Carolina, this month.

The restaurant even spelled out the word “Chubby” in all capital letters on his receipt.

Shue told WBTV he felt “embarrassed and hurt I kind of felt like I was being targeted because of my weight. And that’s not right for anybody to go through that.

“I’ve been to several different Wendy’s and never had a problem. … I don’t want people with disabilities or other ailments to be discriminated against or made fun of because it’s just not right.”

The incident took place on the evening of Oct. 4 as Shue ordered two sandwiches, one for his fiancée and one for himself.

“The girl asked me my name at the register, so I gave her my name clear as day, ‘Jimmy,’” Shue told WCNC-TV. “She said, ‘OK, thank you,’ handed me the ticket, and I didn’t pay no mind at first until looked down at it while I was waiting and saw it said ‘Chubby.'”

Despite being upset, Shue says he was willing to drop the matter, but that’s when he was called the name by another worker as he was given his meal.

“He was hesitant to even say ‘Chubby’ but he did and I told him, ‘That’s not my name but that’s my order,’ and I grabbed the order and started to walk out because I was mad,” Shue told WCNC. “Everybody started laughing in the restaurant, and I got really embarrassed.”

Carolina Restaurant Group, the franchise organization which owns and operates the restaurant, issued a statement in response to the matter:

“We work very hard to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for our employees and customers. We have apologized to this customer and the employee involved no longer works for our company.”
