Now DNC's law firm records in bull's-eye

The records of a Washington law firm that long has supported Democratic Party policies are the target of a new legal action that could shed light on the "dossier" that Obama administration operatives used as evidence to obtain a warrant to spy on the Donald Trump campaign in 2016.

Judicial Watch filed the case against the Department of Justice for records of meetings in 2016 between former FBI General Counsel James Baker and the Perkins Coie law firm.

It all is about the special counsel investigation by Robert Mueller into claims of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 election.

The collusion allegation is at least in part based on the "dossier" created by former British agent Christopher Steele. The document was commissioned by GPS Fusion and funded by the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton campaign.

Judicial Watch says the American public needs to know more.

"The real collusion scandal is the hand-in-hand effort by the Clinton campaign and the Obama DOJ/FBI to spy upon and destroy Donald J. Trump," said Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch. "The FBI, pulled by the troika of Comey/McCabe/Strzok, became an arm of the Clinton campaign. And our new lawsuit aims to get to the bottom of the massive scandal."

In related news, one of the targets of Mueller's investigation, journalist Jerome Corsi, responded Monday with a complaint that accuses Mueller of suborning perjury, extortion and advocating for a criminal act.

"The Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee reported paid Fusion GPS to create the 'salacious and unverified' Clinton-DNC anti-Trump dossier," Judicial Watch said.

"The lawsuit cites a specific media report that FBI top lawyer Baker met with Perkins Coie lawyers to discuss allegations of collusion between Donald Trump and Russia. The meeting reportedly took place weeks before the 2016 election and before the FBI secured a controversial FISA spy warrant targeting then-candidate Trump's campaign."

The lawsuit in federal court in Washington was filed because the DOJ didn't respond to an Oct. 9 request for the information.

"On Oct. 4, Fox News reported Baker told congressional investigators that Perkins Coie lawyer Michael Sussmann "initiated contact with him and provided documents and computer storage devices on Russian hacking."

Judicial Watch said the contact "was made in late 2016 as federal investigators prepared a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant to spy on Trump campaign aide Carter Page."

"At the time, Perkins Coie had hired opposition research firm Fusion GPS to dig into President Trump's background. Fusion GPS paid British ex-spy Christopher Steele to compile the anti-Trump dossier, memos from which were shared with the FBI in the summer of 2016."

The funding for the "unverified dossier" was uncovered by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman, earlier this year.

According to an Oct. 24, 2017, report, Perkins Coie lawyer Marc E. Elias retained Fusion GPS in April 2016 on behalf of the Clinton campaign and DNC: "The Clinton campaign and DNC, through the law firm, continued to fund Fusion GPS's research through the end of October 2016, days before Election Day.' Fusion GPS gave Steele's dossier and other research documents to Elias."

Corsi's allegations against Mueller were revealed in a lawsuit filed by Larry Klayman, a former prosecutor for the U.S. Justice Department and founder of Judicial Watch and Freedom Watch.

He alleges "gross prosecutorial misconduct and criminal acts" against Mueller and his team of mostly Democrat-supporting lawyers.

The complaint charges Mueller and his team attempted to coerce Corsi, also the author of multiple New York Times bestsellers, to commit perjury in their pursuit of statements that would harm President Donald Trump.

"In filing this complaint, my client is not only standing up for his own legal and constitutional rights, but also those of the American people. This rogue government tyranny perpetrated by a special counsel and his prosecutorial staff, which is designed to effectively overthrow a duly elected president by coercing and extorting false testimony from Dr. Corsi and others, cannot be permitted in a civilized society," commented Klayman.

"Dr. Corsi is an American hero, not a felon as depicted falsely by special counsel Mueller and his prosecutorial staff. To the contrary, it is Mueller and his comrades who must now be held to account under the rule of law and professional ethics."

The complaint, submitted to Acting U.S. Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, assistant Attorney General Brian Benczkowski, Washington U.S. Attorney Jessie Liu, DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz and Hamilton Fox of the Washington Bar Association and Robin Ashton of the DOJ office of professional responsibility, seeks to have Mueller disciplined and removed as special counsel, along with his partisan staff.

It demands not only that Mueller and his staff be referred to state and local authorities for criminal prosecution, but that they be barred from ever acting as lawyers again.
