A young black man died of an apparent drug overdose in the West Hollywood apartment of a prominent Democratic donor who “allegedly has a fetish for drugging sex workers.”
Ed Buck previously was investigated after a man named Genmel Moore died of a methamphetamine overdose in his home in 2017, the Washington Free Beacon reported.
Investigators deemed Moore’s death an accidental overdose, but the Free Beacon said several young gay black men have claimed Buck “has a fetish for shooting drugs into black men he picks up off the street or on hookup sites.”
Now, West Hollywood City Council members John D’Amico and Lindsey Horvath are requesting that newly elected Sheriff Alex Villanueva make investigation of the latest death a priority, reported the local news site WEHOville.com.
A rally outside Buck’s home will call on the district attorney to “prosecute him for murder after another young Black gay man was found dead in his West Hollywood apartment of an apparent overdose.”
In the Moore case, the Los Angeles County District Attorney said it had “insufficient evidence” to file charges.
Before he died, Moore wrote in his journal, “Ed Buck is the one to thank. He gave me my first injection of crystal meth.”
The Free Beacon said several Democratic politicians have returned donations from Buck, including newly elected Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
Buck has given more than $150,000 to Democratic campaigns and causes since 2004, according to federal records.
