One new female member of the House of Representatives grabbed almost as much media attention this week as budding superstar Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The BBC, Glamour magazine, the Hill, CNN, the New York Times, NPR and dozens of other shows and pubs photographed her every move, analyzed her fashion statements and swooned over the first Palestinian-American woman ever to be sworn into Congress.
TMZ gushed that she “got the A-list celeb treatment – a full crush of photographers and shouting fans – as she arrived on Capitol Hill.”
That would be Rashida Tlaib, a Democrat from Michigan who enthusiastically voted for Nancy Pelosi to be speaker of the House.
But few in the media probed deeply about Tlaib’s hardline Middle East politics. Apparently, all they were excited about was the Detroit Free Press op-ed by Tlaib headlined: “Now is the time to begin impeachment proceedings against President Trump.” Later, she less formally explained she suggested dropping the “proceedings” and just getting about the business of impeaching the “m––f––-.”
It didn’t take long for Tlaib to show her distinctive anti-Semitic colors.
It hasn’t been reported as enthusiastically or frequently by the friendly media, but it’s out on Twitter. On her first day in her new congressional office, either Tlaib or one of her aides put a post-it note on a world map emblazoned with the word “Palestine” in the Mediterranean Sea with an arrow pointing roughly to Israel.
Another infamous anti-Semite, Linda Sarsour had this to say in her Facebook video on the occasion of Tlaib’s entry into the hallowed halls of Congress: “It’s a national holiday. “You’re witnessing history today.”
Tlaib is fresh back from a December trip to the West Bank to call attention to alleged atrocities by Israel including detention of Palestinian children, deprivation of clean water and conditions of abject poverty in the autonomous Arab territory.
Of course, there is no country called Palestine – never has been. That’s the problem with this kind of behavior – and why it is so inflammatory. What Tlaib and others do gratuitously when they replace the nation of Israel is advocate genocide. That is still what the officials of the Palestinian Authority advocate publicly. It’s still what Hamas and Hezbollah and all the other Islamic terrorist groups in the Middle East demand.
That’s why it’s very significant that an Islamic congresswoman is doing the same thing on her first day in office.
The Shariah Caucus is convening. And there’s a big celebration taking place over the cuteness factor by the media.
Meanwhile, a man calling in to C-SPAN’s Tlaib interview identifying himself as her brother had this to say prior to her swearing-in ceremony: “I’m so proud of you. I can’t wait to see you getting sworn in on Jefferson’s Quran and wearing the Palestinian flag.”
It is not known whether Jefferson’s Quran or a Palestinian flag were used in the ceremony, but nothing would surprise me anymore.
