Like most people in the boomer generation (and those older), I remember exactly where I was when the news of John Kennedy’s assassination was delivered. We were sent home from school (most of us walked then), because nobody knew how to explain to a classroom full of young kids why someone would want to kill our president.
The Democratic Party that produced a John F. Kennedy presidency in the 1960 election could not produce a similar presidency today. Americans back then made all kinds of things. The middle class was thriving, and a hard worker on an automobile assembly line, with only a high school diploma, could aspire to that treasured middle ground with promotions and overtime. The Democrats fought for unions, because they kept wages up. They fought against illegal aliens, because they depressed wages, raised the unemployment rate and increased the burden on social services that were meant for Americans who needed help.
Today’s Democrats long ago gave up on America becoming prosperous by making things. In Democrat dreams we would all be knowledge workers, aka paper pushers. Toilets never broke, houses built themselves, the Longshoremen’s Union happily unloaded ships filled with imported goods from exotic places. Interstate highways, bridges, airports and other infrastructure built in the last century would remain forever and never become crowded or overused. And if they did, and we had construction to do, we could always import cheap labor from south of the border.
What the Democratic Party today fails to recognize is that candidate Donald Trump, whom the Republicans elected in 2016, is in many ways a mirror image of JFK. Indeed, today’s Democrats are incapable of recognizing that mirrored image. All Democrats see is the grotesque shapes and colors of the fun-house mirrors found in the old traveling circus. Democrats’ frustration and rage at having lost power, their hatred of America and what it stands for outside the blue (nosed) states, blinds them from recognizing this incredible asset God chose to give to America and the world.
Pelosi and Schumer, the Democrat leaders who have shut down the government with their demands for no wall, are the same two who 10 years ago demanded that a wall be built. Gee, illegal aliens, drugs, sex trafficking and the burden on social services were all problems back then. What changed?
There’s more to this than ideology. There has to be. Most politicians can take either side of an issue at the flip of a coin. Heck, they can argue one side of the issue as the coin goes up, and another as it drops back down.
That alone should have convinced voters long ago that such “representation” is worthless to America. But it’s far worse. During the trial of El Chapo, one of Mexico’s most ruthless criminal gang leaders, it emerged that they paid the former Mexican president $100 million dollars to facilitate moving illegal drugs and other “merchandise” northward, across the U.S. border, so they could better serve cash-flush Americans.
Is it not naive to think that those who were for a border wall 10 years ago are against one now? The problems of 10 years ago remain the same or have grown worse. Could it be that those who agitate loudest against the wall they were for, now have an interest in the free flow of products and services across our borders? If the president of Mexico was paid $100 million, what would similar access cost among the American elites on this side?
If that is indeed the case, what does it say about all the comfy-cozy relationships between some Democrats and Republicans in Washington? Our capital city doesn’t make anything. So how did D.C. become the wealthiest ZIP code in the nation? It’s not on the salaries that our elected “servants” are paid (although they are extremely generous given the return that we receive from their efforts).
What are the implications for America if the “never wall” people can be shown to have become “shareholders” in the cartels operating south of our border? Is there a will to prosecute and punish them, or has the associated evil they let across the border become so entwined in our culture than nothing can be done, and we merely await our own demise?
