(RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH) -- Two former journalists who now serve in the General Assembly are trying to protect their past peers.
Del. Chris Hurst, D-Montgomery, and Del. Danica Roem, D-Prince William, have introduced bills that would add free speech protections for both student and professional journalists.
“Tackling tough issues, whether you’re a high school student or you’re a professional journalist, means that you sometimes have to expose things that may make the comfortable uncomfortable,” Hurst said Monday at a news conference with Roem touting the bills. “It is essential that we have safeguards in place here in the commonwealth.”
