The fight over funding for border security, which has led to a partial government shutdown, may not be over.
But President Trump is promoting his cause for a border barrier by deploying the words of the Democrats’ leader in the Senate, Chuck Schumer.
The New York lawmaker supported building a barrier until President Trump turned it into a winning issue in the 2016 campaign.
Now Democrats are adamantly opposed to a border wall, refusing to agree to the $5 billion the president is requesting in the current budget bill.

The video features rock-throwing mobs and depicts crime, drugs and other hazards pouring across the border.
Then it has Schumer on screen stating, “Illegal immigration is wrong, plain and simple.”
It finishes with a crowd chanting, “Build the wall.”
The video is “awesome,” commented The Right Scoop blog.
“I love it. But I’m sure Chuck Schumer won’t because it makes him look like the hypocrite we all know him to be,” the commentary said. “This video perfectly encapsulates that and shows the American people the truth. It’s a good move by Trump.”
Critics of the video insisted a wall isn’t necessary to secure the border.
“Orange on the outside and white on the inside,” said one in an apparent reference to the president.
Another stated, “You’re a liar.”
