Democrats continue to refuse to approve a budget bill over the issue of border security, claiming President Trump’s wall is immoral and won’t work anyway.
But that’s hogwash, according to one of their own, Mark Morgan, the chief of U.S. Border Patrol under Barack Obama’s administration.
Morgan was interviewed by Fox News’ Tucker Carlson on Monday:
Asked whether or not walls help secure a border, he was unequivocal.
“Yes. They absolutely work,” he said.
“If you look in the past, you don’t have to go too far back in history that bipartisan legislation that was passed … the Secure Fence Act. In 2006 and 2012 bipartisan legislation passed where they built the wall, or fence or physical barrier or whatever you want to call it. It’s a wall. It works.”
President Trump was scheduled Tuesday evening to address the nation on the crisis at the southern border. Tens of thousands of illegal aliens routinely breach the border and demand social services and financial aide.
Under the best circumstances, they enter the job market and compete in the low-skilled job market.
Democrats have demanded that television networks give them equal time after the president addresses the nation at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.
Morgan, who was removed from his position when the Trump administration took over, nevertheless insisted the president is correct.
“The president is right. The other day when they had the national press conference, and they got up and they said the wall works, they’re right. And it’s not based on a personal political ideology. That’s based on historical data and facts that can be proven,” he said.
Democrats, he said, are just trying to make a political point, since they themselves endorsed building walls, in 2006 and 2012, before President Trump was elected.
“I cannot think of a legitimate argument why anyone would not support the wall,” he said.
“I believe in what the president is doing. When he says that this is a national security problem he’s absolutely correct. And that doesn’t come just from me, that comes from professionals who have been doing this their entire adult lives. They’re saying it works. Why aren’t we listening to the experts?”
At issue is the president’s request for some $5.7 billion in border security that would include work on strategic sections of wall. The Democrats in Congress, most of whom previously endorsed the idea of much more money for border security and a wall, have flatly refused.
The Democrat contend a wall is a fifth century idea, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently declared it’s immoral. One Democrat claimed it would be a monument to “white nationalism.”
Carlson said it’s possible that Democrats oppose the wall because they fear it actually would work.
