Planned Parenthood for years has characterized its work as "health care."
In one statement posted online, it says "compassionate staff at Planned Parenthood are experts in women's health care."

"We provide essential reproductive and sexual health services like pelvic exams, Pap tests, cancer screenings, and testing and treatment for vaginal infections."
It also says that through "our health centers across the U.S., inclusive, medically accurate sex education programs, and tireless efforts to defend people’s right to access quality, affordable health care, Planned Parenthood is working to create the healthiest generation ever — both at home in the United States and around the globe."

And Planned Parenthood "is one of the nation’s leading providers of high-quality, affordable health care for women, men, and young people, and the nation’s largest provider of sex education. We offer quality health care, backed by medical experts and over 100 years of research in reproductive care."
But it's real mission? Abortion.

That's according to the organization's new president.
I am always happy to do interviews, but these headlines completely misconstrue my vision for Planned Parenthood. https://t.co/Bt06dpUoqZ

"First, our core mission is providing, protecting and expanding access to abortion and reproductive health care," insisted Leana Wen.
"We will never back down from that fight – it's a fundamental human right and women's lives are at stake."
She was responding to the headline "Planned Parenthood's new president wants to focus on non-abortion health care," which was published after an interview with her in Buzzfeed.

"Refreshing honesty," said a post on the Twitter news site Twitchy.
"For some reason, despite their status as a bona fide butcher of unborn babies, Planned Parenthood still likes to pretend that women's health is their bread and butter. Which is why it's actually kind of refreshing for their new president Dr. Leana Wen to admit the truth," Twitchy said.
While Planned Parenthood claims that abortion is "3 percent of what we do," it's very important to Wen.
Wen admitted that emphasizing Planned Parenthood's "health care" was wrong.

"I am always happy to do interviews, but these headlines completely misconstrue my vision for Planned Parenthood," she said on Twitter.
Following her tweet, which included a long list of statements promoting the abortion industry, a Twitter user asked, "Why don't you use your medical skills to save the unborn instead of condoning and heralding chopping up fetuses by the millions?"
Another Twitter user, Cody, wrote: "I was told that abortion is only 3% of what PP does. Now it's your first, core mission? Refreshing honesty."
And Paul Hacker said, "I give you credit for saying abortion is core mission of PP, and NOT bogus claims of mammograms and the like."
"In case it wasn't clear before that our tax dollars are funding the systematic murder of the unborn, this ought to put any remaining doubt to rest once and for all," said another.
The Buzzfeed piece, nevertheless, largely promoted Planned Parenthood's "health care" services.
Alexandra Desanctis at National Review said Wen was "in over her head" for being upset that the media took her at her word.
"Medical care is designed to heal the human body and allow it to flourish, never to deform or mutilate it. A procedure with the direct aim of killing a human being — born or unborn — can never rightly be called health care."
Desanctis said it "becomes clear that Planned Parenthood’s new president has a penchant for muddling the organization’s talking points and inadvertently revealing its investment in pushing for laws that protect its lucrative abortion business."
Democrats in Congress have been able to protect the $500 million a year taxpayers turn over to Planned Parenthood, despite opposition from Republicans fueled by revelations of the abortion company's participation in the sale of baby body parts.
