The New York Times was shocked – shocked, I tell you! – about what Karen Pence, the wife of Vice President Mike Pence, is up to these days.
The headline last week told the story: “Karen Pence Is Teaching at Christian School That Bars L.G.B.T. Students and Teachers.” (It actually needed some correction from Snopes, which pointed out the school does not technically bar homosexual students and teachers, but rather defines all sexual activity outside of marriage by students and staff as “moral misconduct.”)
For the New York Times, it was like a revelation that some Christian schools actually turned to the Bible to define sinful activity.
“Karen Pence, the second lady of the United States, returned to teaching art this week, accepting a part-time position at a private Christian school that does not allow gay students and requires employees to affirm that marriage should only be between a man and a woman,” the Times report opened.
Reports along the same lines followed from Politico, Reuters, NBC, CNN, etc. They all followed the same script … though ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live took some liberties with its headline: “Karen Pence Takes Job at School That Hates Gays.”
You know how that works: Anyone who doesn’t affirm homosexual activity HATES homosexuals, right?
When I read the news today or watch any media, I’m beginning to feel like a guy from another planet or a parallel universe. Keep in mind I have worked in the news business for the last 45 years. But never before have the media become so estranged from mainstream Christianity – the largest religion in the world. Judging from what you see in the media, you might assume there are more homosexuals on the planet than followers or Jesus the Messiah.
“My wife and I have been in the public eye for quite a while, we’re used to the criticism,” Vice President Mike Pence said in an interview with EWTN, a cable network that offers news from a Catholic perspective. “To see major news organizations attacking Christian education is deeply offensive to us. We have a rich tradition in America of Christian education, and frankly religious education broadly defined. We’ll let the other critics roll off our back, but this criticism of Christian education in America should stop.”
News is generally defined as something unusual. It’s not a story when a dog bites a man; but when a man bites a dog, a reporter has got a scoop. So when did it become unusual for Christian schools to behave like Christians rather than progressive secular humanists?
Let me explain this to you: The New York Times and the rest of the fake-news media are not surprised by the choice of Karen Pence to teach at a Christian school. They would have been shocked if she decided to teach at a non-Christian school – as I would have been.
What is this coverage really about? It’s about the demeaning of not just Christian education, as Vice President Pence surmised. It’s about the disparagement of Christianity writ large. It’s about the utter contempt the media and the radical left have for the remnant of faithful followers of Jesus.
It’s not Karen Pence’s school that hates anyone.
Rather, it is the Christophobic left-wing culture that is full of hate for those who choose to follow a different path for their families – the way of biblical morality.
Nothing gets under their skin more than people quietly following God in their lives.
Notice the Times article pointed out that it’s still legal to have private Christian schools in America. Imagine that! Legal! You know that’s the reason the New York Times and the rest of the media are seeing red over Karen Pence’s art class.
