New York lawmakers adopted an abortion-until-birth law in January that likely will financially benefit the abortion industry, based on the many thousands of dollars charged for late-term abortions.
And now the American Center for Law and Justice, or ACLJ, wants to know what kind of influence the abortion industry had on the legislators who voted for the bill.
“On behalf of over 4,000 of our members residing in New York and nearly 100,000 nationwide, the ACLJ has demanded records that will show what was happening behind the scenes leading up to New York’s barbaric law: What kind of pressure did the abortion lobby place on New York lawmakers? What was promised? What kind of communications were taking place between the governor’s office and the New York legislators about the RHA?” said an ACLJ statement.
The adoption of the law by New York lawmakers, and their celebration, was followed by a vote on a similar bill in Virginia, which failed.
But Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam stirred controversy in defense of the bill when he seemed to condone infanticide.
“If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen,” he said in a radio interview. “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired. And then, a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”
Reggie Littlejohn of Womens Rights Without Frontiers said the New York law is even worse than communist China’s policy, which does not allow abortion once the mother begins labor.
ACLJ noted Virginia’s “governor and legislators – bought and paid for by Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America – tried to take Virginia down New York’s path of death.”
The legal group has delivered Freedom of Information Law requests to the New York governor’s office as part of a “multifaceted legal strategy to defend life and expose the political and financial agenda of the abortion industry.”
It is seeking access to records to or from Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his staff and others regarding the abortion bill.
“Abortion advocates have bragged about their achievement in New York, New York legislators cheered and applauded their victory, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo had the World Trade Center’s spire lit up with pink,” ACLJ said.
“The abortion juggernaut is boasting about their success in flipping the state’s Senate majority – putting the party that had successfully blocked the RHA for so many years in the minority.”
