James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family and the James Dobson Family Institute, the author of dozens of books on family and adviser to at least five presidents, has battled the abortion cartel much of his career.
Now he’s calling on Americans to urge senators to approve S.311, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which is scheduled for a floor vote Monday.
He’s calling out Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., for claiming that such protections already exist.
“In all my time in the pro-life movement, never did I think I would need to publicly declare my support for a bill like the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act,” he said in a statement on Friday.
“I am truly saddened that we as a country would even have need to protect a child who has survived the horrors of an attempted abortion and has been left to die on a porcelain tray. Shockingly, despite what some politicians like Sen. Murray would have you believe, we do not currently have federal protection for babies who have survived such a procedure.”
“Politicians such as Sen. Murray would have you believe that this bill is an affront to a woman’s ‘health,'” he said.
“That’s an outright lie and Sen. Murray knows this. She should be ashamed of herself for spreading such a fallacy. This has nothing to do with women’s health, but with the health of a precious, struggling newborn gasping for breath after attempted murder,” Dobson charged.
“The failed effort to pass the bill by unanimous voice vote is a national disgrace. Should the bill fail to pass the Senate floor vote on Monday, we must call out all those who opposed it as openly endorsing infanticide,” he said.
“Therefore, it is up to Christians and Americans of good faith to correct course and right the ship of our nation. We must pray for our leaders that they will act in wisdom and with urgency. Every human child is an image bearer of the Creator, and we are all fearfully and wonderfully knit together in our mother’s womb. I call on all 100 senators to support the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, sending a resounding and emphatic message to the country that the heinous practice of infanticide will never be allowed in our nation.”
He said the bill would ensure that any child born alive during an abortion procedure would be given full legal protection as a living human being.
It requires that medical treatment to save the child’s life be provided.
The plan comes from Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., who originally called for “unanimous consent,” a procedure that would have accelerated the bill’s approval.
However, Murray blocked it, on behalf of Senate Democrats.
There currently is no federal law requiring medical professionals to provide treatment for children born alive in an abortion, and a recent survey showed only 26 states have that requirement.
“Furthermore, New York’s recently passed Reproductive Health Act removed that state’s protection for children born alive after an abortion,” Dobson said.
The abandonment of babies who survive abortion procedures was endorsed by Barack Obama while he was a state lawmaker in Illinois.
As president, his administration argued in court on the side of the mob that chanted “hail Satan” in 2013 in opposition to a Texas bill banning abortion after 20 weeks.
