The moral poison is spreading

By Barbara Simpson

What a week it’s been. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the word “abortion” in the news more, and so much of it is blatantly false. All this is the result of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signing into law one of the most radical abortion laws in this country – the signing greeted by whoops and cheers from the state legislature.

Bottom line, abortion is a fundamental right of any and all women, at any stage of her pregnancy, and no one can say ‘No.” If a baby survives the abortion procedure, there is now NO requirement to protect it. In other words, let (or help) it die.

This moral poison is spreading. Scarcely had the New York Law made the headlines, then it was reported that Vermont is strengthening its’ abortion law. You may not know that Vermont has pretty much open season on abortion – virtually no limits or regulations. It has already legalized abortion through nine months, and it now wants to put those abortion protections into the state constitution. The bottom line is preborn children will not have any rights in the state, even at the point of birth.

It will take two votes of the people; but if it passes, it would become law regardless of what happens to Roe v. Wade in the future.

The state of Virginia took heat this week for its proposed Late Term Abortion law. When questioned, delegate Kathy Tran confirmed her bill would allow a woman to have an abortion right up to the point of birth. The bill allows such an abortion if a doctor and the woman declare that her “health” is at risk. They don’t define just exactly what that means.

The governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam, got into the mix when he was criticized for his statement about a “botched” abortion. Remember, a “botched” abortion is when a baby is born alive.

He said the baby would be delivered and the infant kept comfortable – be resuscitated if the woman desires – but what happens next would depend on the physician and the mother. In other words, let the baby live or die.

One thing is certain, the father of that child does not have any legal or moral right to be part of any such decisions.

Governor Cuomo is taking a lot of heat from Catholics – he claims to be one – but he still supports late-term abortion. So far, calls for him to be excommunicated by the Church have fallen on deaf ears within the clergy with the power to do that.

Governor Gina Raimondo, also a Catholic, is supporting a similar bill in her state of Rhode Island. Under it, preborn babies would have NO protection.

The poison is spreading. There’s an effort in New Mexico to repeal the old pro-life bill and put into place new legislation to protect abortion under all circumstances, despite Roe v. Wade. There are reports that some efforts are underway to change abortion laws in Texas as well, and that’s not the only state. Get ready for more, it’s inevitable.

I spent part of this evening listening to a local liberal radio talk show on KGO. A woman and man were hosting and I don’t know which one caused my blood pressure to raise more, Pat Thurston or John Rothmann.

The woman went on and on that a born child of an abortion would only be allowed to die if it had no brain. She totally ignored the fact of the laws passed that say clearly that ANY child surviving an abortion would be allowed to live only if the mother agrees.

To me, just the concept of caring for a newborn untill you decide to let it die is the epitome of evil.

The male host made reference to what he called “a very strange, newly created term: Infanticide.”

No one called him on that. Where has he spent his life? Society has known of “infanticide” since Biblical Days, since the days of the Mayans and Aztecs. And yet he said it’s a “newly created term.” Someone should inform him, it’s the same as murder.

Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse is infuriated. He’s the author of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would “prohibit a health care practitioner from failing to exercise the proper degree of care in the care of a child who survives an abortion or attempted abortion.”

As for his reaction to the New York and other laws? He was quoted on “This is morally repugnant. In just a few years pro-abortion zealots went from ‘safe, legal and rare’ to ‘keep the newborns comfortable while the doctor debates infanticide.’ I don’t care what party you’re from – if you can’t say that it’s wrong to leave babies to die after birth, get the hell out of public office.”

Thank you Senator. You’ve got my vote!
