The Council on American-Islamic Relations – a D.C.-based group founded by Hamas operatives that was named in a terror-funding case – backed Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., as the House prepared to vote on a watered-down resolution originally intended to condemn her anti-Semitic remarks.
CAIR, in fact, criticized the original resolution and praised the many additions that watered it down, including condemnations of “Islamophobia,” white supremacism, anti-Catholic remarks against John F. Kennedy and treatment of Japanese Americans during World War II.
Significantly, CAIR echoed remarks by Omar that drew bipartisan denunciation, saying the resolution’s original intent was “introduced to silence legitimate criticism of domestic support for the discriminatory and segregationist policies of a foreign government that receives billions of American taxpayer dollars,” referring to Israel.
CAIR said it welcomed changes to the resolution “made in response to criticism by grassroots coalitions and voices of conscience within the House.”
The resolution was approved late Thursday afternoon by a 407-23 vote. While 23 Republicans said they voted against the resolution because it was “watered down,” it specifically condemned the “dual allegiance” sentiments Omar expressed toward supporters of Israel.
Last week, Omar said her critics represent a “political influence in this country that says it is OK to push for allegiance to a foreign country,” meaning Israel.
WND reported Omar is in company with the likes of radical Muslim activist Linda Sarsour and CAIR in accusing Jews of having a “dual loyalty” to the United States and Israel.
CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad said in December 2017 when the U.S. announced the move of its embassy to Jerusalem that “this administration will put the interests of Israel and its lobby here in the United States above the interests of the United States.”
The FBI blacklisted CAIR from outreach programs after the Islamic organization was named an unindicted co-conspirator in a plot to fund Hamas, a State Department-designated foreign terrorist organization.
During the trial, the FBI presented evidence CAIR was founded as a Muslim Brotherhood-Hamas front group. More than a dozen CAIR leaders have been charged or convicted of terrorism-related crimes. And the group also was designated a terrorist organization by the United Arab Emirates.
Omar: Israel’s ‘evil doings’
Omar in 2012 accused Israel of “hypnotizing the world” and prayed that “Allah awaken the people and help them see [its] evil doings.”
In February, she responded to a tweet from journalist Glenn Greenwald about House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy threatening to punish her and another congresswoman for being critical of Israel.
Omar tweeted in response: “It’s all about the Benjamins baby.”
In another tweet she named AIPAC as a group funding Republican support for Israel.
After criticism from Pelosi and other Democratic leaders, Omar issued a qualified apology, pledging to learn more about “the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes” while also blaming Jewish money for driving the criticism. Two days later, she took a personal swipe at a Jewish diplomat during a congressional hearing.
President Trump called on her to resign or be barred from serving on congressional committees, saying, “Anti-Semitism has no place in the United States Congress.”
Since then, it’s been reported she is scheduled to speak alongside a notorious, anti-Semitic Muslim leader.
