Well, isn’t this rich. I’d like to say it’s like the pot calling the kettle black, but I’d probably be accused of racism.
After all the years of conservatives complaining how the RNC just caves to the demands of the various leftist “news” networks, the DNC, for good or ill, steps up.
The Daily Caller writes that the head of the Democrat National Committee, Tom Perez, issued a statement that Fox News is “not in a position to host a fair and neutral [presidential candidates] debate.”
The DNC “announced Wednesday that they are not allowing Fox News to host any Democratic presidential debates this election cycle, citing the network’s alleged ‘inappropriate relationship’ with President Donald Trump.”
Although I’m not certain that Fox will be all that broken up about this news, it is the DNC’s prerogative to deny them.
And it’s a prerogative conservatives wish the RNC should adopt.
There have been dozens of requests of the RNC to stop allowing the leftist media to set the rules when it comes to presidential debates, but they’ve never listened – as if Republicans were duty-bound by some sense of “fairness” to debate in front of openly hostile debate hosts/monitors.
Most of us recall the second presidential town-hall style debate in October 2012, between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Romney decried Obama’s slow response to the Benghazi attacks. Romney said it took Obama 14 days to call the attack an act of terror, when up until that time, Obama and his administration had insisted the attacks were spawned from a spontaneous demonstration. Romney’s claim was a demonstrable fact, but it didn’t matter.
It was then that the supposed “neutral” debate monitor, Candy Crowley of CNN, felt compelled to jump to the president’s aid, attempting to fact check Romney, on the spot, on national TV, leaving her neutral status in the rearview mirror (as if she were ever neutral).
As an obvious breach of protocol and clearly against the rules of the debate, she injected herself into the discussion, lamely trying to defend Obama by means of stammering leftist semantics.
This is precisely what the debate monitors are NOT supposed to do. Their job is to present questions and move the debate along, attempting to impose the agreed-upon time limits for each response.
But, as has been said hundreds of times, liberals are liberals first and foremost. Regardless of their job, they think, act and react like leftists first. They can’t help themselves. So when the liberal Crowley saw her guy, Obama, potentially being painted into a corner, she had the knee-jerk reaction of defending him – a role not part of her duty as a debate monitor.
This was the impetus for conservatives to rightly complain that these debates are rigged and clearly one-sided. We offered suggestions to the RNC to allow Hillsdale College to host a debate, or perhaps have Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin or Glenn Beck host one or more of the next Republican primary debates.
Naturally, as do most conservative suggestions, these invitations fell on deaf ears.
According to Perez, his decision stemmed from, “reporting in the New Yorker that alleges Fox News has become a propaganda outlet for the Trump administration and no longer operates as a news outlet.”
Admittedly, at times, it does seem that Fox News carries Trump’s water. However, any way you cut it, Fox News, with its stable of less than conservative hosts, is far more fair and balanced than any of the mainstream media and leftist cable networks, which, in fact, are leftist propaganda mills.
Maybe this bold move by Perez and the DNC will encourage the RNC to stretch out their comfort zone and try something bold and new.
But let’s not hold our breath.
