Left-wing activists who protested Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s freedom to discuss his views on air were “terrorizing” him and his family at their home, according to a police report.
Last November, the group Smash Racism DC sent a chanting mob to Carlson’s home and later posted a video of their demonstration.
Carlson was at the Fox News studio when the crowd shouted and screamed outside his home, prompting his wife to call 9-1-1, the Daily Caller reported.
“At least one of the protesters went all the way up to Carlson’s front door, where they left a sign with his family’s home address written on it and rang his doorbell,” the report said.
They ordered him to “flee the city of Washington, D.C.”
“Tucker Carlson, we will fight! We know where you sleep at night!” they chanted.
Smash Racism DC has accused Carlson of fear-mongering for his comments on social and political issues.
It was the same group that confronted Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and his wife, Heidi, at a Washington restaurant over the senator’s support for the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Government watchdog Judicial Watch now has released the police report from that night. It was obtained from Metropolitan Police Department in a Freedom of Information Act request.
The report states: “[Susie Carlson] heard loud banging and pounding on her front door. [Susie Carlson] went to investigate and saw a large group in front of her home. They had a bull horn and were chanting loudly. She retreated to a room in the rear of her home and summoned police. MPD arrived on scene and found a group of approximately 20 people. It was discovered that unknown persons spray painted an anarchy symbol on the driveway. There were also signs left on the vehicles parked in the driveway as well as a sign left on the front door of the home. The signs made reference to [Tucker Carlson’s] political affiliation.”
The incident was “suspected hate crime” with the “hate bias/motivation” being “anti-political,” the report said.
Six “hand-written posters” were seized as evidence, according to the report. A handwritten note included with the report said the “suspected group is Smash Racism DC.”
Carlson, at the time, said the mob blocked both ends of his residential street and carried signs with his home address.
“Tucker Carlson, we are outside your home,” one person could be heard saying in the since-deleted video. The person, using a bullhorn, accused Carlson of “promoting hate” and “an ideology that has led to thousands of people dying.”
One person is overheard in one of the videos saying she wanted to “bring a pipe bomb” to the Carlson home.
“Tucker Carlson wasn’t merely ‘targeted by protesters,’ as some media reported. His family was terrorized by a mob of 20 people who vandalized his property,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said.
NBC on-air personality Megyn Kelly, formerly a leading Fox News personality, tweeted at the time of the attack: “This has to stop. Who are we? What are we becoming? @TuckerCarlson is tough & can handle a lot, but he does not deserve this.”
National Review reported the messages being chanted were “threatening.”
One of the now-removed Twitter messages said: “Tucker Carlson has been spewing nonstop hate and lies about he migrant caravan. National Review said it was the same group that forced Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to leave a restaurant in June. A group of men berated her for her role in implementing the administration’s zero-tolerance immigration-enforcement policy.
Carlson told the Washington Post his wife “had been in the kitchen alone getting ready to go to dinner and she heard pounding on the front door and screaming. … Someone started throwing himself against the front door and actually cracked the front door.”
She locked herself in a safe area and called 911.
Commentator Patrick Buchanan explained what the activists found to be “wrong” with Tucker’s comments and views.
“After playing clips of Democratic politicians reciting that truth of modern liberalism, Tucker Carlson asked, ‘How, precisely, is diversity our strength? Since you’ve made this our new national motto, please be specific,'” he wrote.
“Reaction to Carlson’s question, with some declaring him a racist for having raised it, suggests that what we are dealing with here is not a demonstrable truth but a creed not subject to debate,” Buchanan wrote.
“Yet the question remains valid: Where is the scientific, historic or empirical evidence that the greater the racial, ethnic, cultural and religious diversity of a nation, the stronger it becomes?
“From recent decades, it seems more true to say the reverse: The more diverse a nation, the greater the danger of its disintegration. Ethnic diversity, after all, tore apart our mighty Cold War rival, splintering the Soviet Union into 15 nations, three of which – Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia – have since split further along ethnic lines. Russia had to fight two wars to hold onto Chechnya and prevent the diverse peoples of the North Caucasus from splitting off on ethnic grounds, as Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan had done.
“Ethnic diversity then shattered Yugoslavia into seven separate nations.
“And even as we proclaim diversity to be our greatest strength, nations everywhere are recoiling from it,” Buchanan wrote.
