A dog in Thailand has been credited with rescuing a newborn child after authorities say it was buried in a field to conceal the pregnancy.
BBC News reported the baby boy was alive, despite being buried.
“Ping Pong the dog was barking and digging in a field in Ban Nong Kham village,” the BBC reported. “Its owner says he then noticed a baby’s leg sticking out of the earth.”
Emergency workers were called immediately, and they recovered the child and reported the boy was in good condition.
The child was abandoned by a 15-year-old to hide the pregnancy from her parents, the report said.
“Ping Pong’s owner, Usa Nisaikha, says it lost the use of one of its legs after being hit by a car,” BBC said.
“I kept him because he’s so loyal and obedient, and always helps me out when I go to the fields to tend to my cattle. He’s loved by the entire village,” Nisaikha told Khaosod newspaper.
Investigators now have accused the teen of child abandonment and attempted murder.
