(LATIMES) — Puerto Rico’s besieged governor — who many on the island hoped would resign by midday Wednesday — remains on the job, local officials say.

A statement tweeted from the account of La Fortaleza, the governor’s official residence, around 1 p.m. local time said that “incorrect rumors” were swirling around the island. Gov. Ricardo Rossello had not resigned, officials said, and was still “in a process of reflection and of listening to the people.”
