A torrential rainstorm stuck the nation’s capital Monday, creating a chaotic situation with numerous motorists forced to abandon their cars on flooded roads.

That prompted U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., to politicize the weather, as she promoted her climate-change agenda.

“Unprecedented flooding is quickly becoming a new normal,” the congresswoman tweeted.

“Despite that, Republicans are tripling down on fossil fuels w/no plan to transition off them, or make the critical infra investments we need to prep for the climate crisis. Each day of inaction puts more of us in danger.”

NBC4 in Washington, D.C., called the flooding “historic,” reporting:

“D.C. was hit by a historic flash flood Monday morning, drenching the city with nearly 3.5 inches of water in just two hours.

“The inundation left drivers stranded in their cars, leaked into Metro stations and felled trees.

“A record 3.41 inches of rainfall was measured at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. That’s the most rain ever recorded there in a single day.”

Ocasio-Cortez doubled down on her comments Monday, also tweeting:

“Climate change intensifies flooding, wildfires, & extreme weather. It’s more than 1 day or 1 storm; it’s all of them. Places are flooding where they haven’t before; there are 90-degree days in Alaska in June. The GOP will mock & sow confusion until it’s their home swept away.”

The Democrat’s comments sparked thousands of responses on Twitter, including:

  • “Rain is now the GOP’s fault. Gotcha.”
  • “Have you researched this, or is this just what your Soros handler told you? Nevermind. I know the answer!”
  • “No, you not so informed congressman, it’s because [cities and counties] allow landscapers to blow the clippings in the streets. and when it rains clogs the drainages and trash thrown on the streets is blocking the drain entrances as we’re #notsosmart”
  • “How long till she compares it to Noah’s flood? Then @RashidaTlaib will jump to say Noah was actually a Palestinian.”
