A “deep state” operative who sought to undermine President Trump now is going all-in for the Democrats.
Andrew McCabe, the former acting director of the FBI who was fired for lying, has been confirmed as the speaker at the Lancaster County Democrats’ annual fall banquet.
The Sept. 21 event will cost $80 to attend.
Twitter news aggregator Twitchy said, “The mask is off.”
“McCabe also will be selling signed copies of his book, according to the announcement.”
WND reported federal prosecutors are in the final stages of deciding whether to indict McCabe on charges of lying to bureau investigators, including under oath.
The Justice Department’s inspector general found McCabe, who was later fired, was “lacking candor” in his interviews.
His case was referred to the U.S. attorney’s office in 2018.
The New York Times cited sources familiar with the case who said that in two recent meetings, McCabe’s lawyers met with the deputy attorney general, Jeffrey A. Rosen, and the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, Jessie K. Liu.
Rosen is expected to be involved in the decision about whether to prosecute.
“The person would not detail the discussions, but defense lawyers typically meet with top law enforcement officials to try to persuade them not to indict their client if they failed to get line prosecutors to drop the case,” the paper said.
IG Michael Horowitz said in a report that McCabe wasn’t truthful several times in interviews with federal agents.
He was said to have lied about leaking information to the press.
CNN also recently announced it has hired McCabe as a contributor.
The Washington Free Beacon reported McCabe, who was described by fired former FBI chief James Comey as having “stood tall over the last 8 months, when small people were trying to tear down an institution we all depend on,” promised event organizers he’ll discuss his “one-on-one interactions with Donald Trump” at the event.
“He also will cover the ‘fallout and aftermath’ of former FBI director James Comey’s firing, ‘Russian meddling in the 2016 election,’ and special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation,” the report said.
The local party explained, “Lest anyone thinks this will be a gloomy take on things, Mr. McCabe says he is sure there are brighter days ahead and will talk about why he feels this way.”
There have been suspicions about McCabe’s neutrality on politics ever since 2015 when friends of Hillary Clinton gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to his wife, Jill McCabe, in her unsuccessful run for office as a Democrat.
McCabe now is suing the government, claiming his firing was motivated by politics, not his lying.
On Twitter, Kris Kinder wondered: “Good grief! Do these people have any clue what this looks like?”
Elizabeth Harrington added, “These are the partisan hacks who sat atop the most powerful law enforcement agencies in the world.”
Twitter user Jason Howerton wrote: “so top FBI officials accused of acting in an inappropriate and partisan way are setting out to prove everyone wrong …. By campaigning for Democrats?
“That’s a bold strategy.”
