Comey gives endorsement to Biden, then Biden team asks about returning it

Fired FBI Director James Comey has been involved in a long list of scandals in recent years.

He’s the one who “reopened” the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s unsecured email system days before the 2016 election after saying no prosecutor would charge her. He was on the inside when bureaucrats discussed wearing a wire to record President Trump while contemplating removing him by invoking the 25th Amendment.

He’s been a non-stop critic of President Trump, but when he endorsed Joe Biden for president on Tuesday, a Biden campaign official said thanks but no thanks.

The Daily Caller reported Andrew Bates, a rapid response director for Biden, reacted to a tweet by Comey praising Biden.

“Yes, customer service? I just received a package that I very much did not order,” Bates wrote. “How can I return it, free of charge?”

Comey had written: “We need candidate who cares about all Americans and will restore decency, dignity to the office. There is a reason Trump fears @joebiden and roots for Bernie.”

Bates later backtracked, insisting he was only joking.

“I forgot the #1 rule of politics, which is that if you talk about anyone or anything related to 2016, common sense goes out the window,” he wrote on Twitter. “It was meant to be a lighthearted joke – not a rejection. We appreciate the vote of anyone repelled by Donald Trump.”

Talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh said people recall how Comey “savaged” Hillary Clinton while Democrats were expecting him to protect her.

“That’s decency? That’s dignity? You and [ex-CIA Director John] Brennan and [ex-Director of National Intelligence James] Clapper and the rest of your claptrap bunch at the FBI, decency, dignity? That’s what you want to return so you endorse Joe Biden, and now he doesn’t even want your endorsement? Because they remembered your dignified and decent way you savaged Hillary Clinton while supposedly saving her,” he said.

Also on Tuesday, former Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, who served as Barack Obama’s defense secretary, endorsed Biden for president.
