(CNBC) -- Stocks rose on Tuesday as traders focused on the reopening of the economy from the coronavirus pandemic even amid civil unrest around the U.S.
The S&P 500 gained 0.8% to close at 3,080.82, reaching its session high with less than 30 minutes left in the session. Tuesday’s gains put the S&P 500 up more than 40% from its late-March low.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 267.63 points, or 1.1%, to 25,742.65. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.6% to 9,608.37.
