The top super PAC supporting Joe Biden has been funneling money to its own chairman through an unlicensed company, according to an investigation by the Washington Free Beacon.
Priorities USA Action has paid nearly $1 million, including $450,000 this election cycle, to Miles Strategies, which is owned by Guy Cecil, the Free Beacon said.
Under Cecil’s leadership, Priorities USA Action has positioned itself as Joe Biden’s top supporter, pouring $42 million into the election so far.
It plans to spend more than $150 million in the 2020 cycle.
Records with Washington, D.C.’s Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs show that the city revoked Miles Strategies LLC’s business license.
A spokesman for the department said Cecil regularly failed to file the necessary paperwork to keep the business operating legally.
After the Free Beacon reached out to Cecil for comment — he didn’t reply — he began filing the necessary paperwork.
The firm has not been resinstated, however, the department spokesman told the Free Beacon on Thursday.
The company apparently has been operating without proper authorization for three years.
Cecil, who served as the political director for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign, receives a salary of $263,000 from Priorities USA Action’s nonprofit arm.
The group has continued to pay Cecil’s company for what it calls “strategy consulting,” sending Miles Strategies $742,000 since the LLC’s license was revoked in September 2017.
