Gallup: Most Americans greatly overstate COVID hospitalization rate

By Art Moore

Most Americans greatly overstate the risk of hospitalization for COVID-19 for both the vaccinated and the unvaccinated, according to Gallup.

The survey of 3,000 adults found 41% of registered Democrats believe there is a 50% chance that an unvaccinated individual will go the hospital for COVID-19.

The actual rate for both the vaccinated and unvaccinated is less than 1%, Gallup said, citing data from the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Meanwhile, 21% of Republicans and 26% of independents believe the rate is 50%.

Overvall, the survey found 92% overstate the risk that unvaccinated people will be hospitalized, and 62% overstate the risk for vaccinated people.

Gallup said its monthly tracking of the vaccination rates of Americans 18 and older reveals “a deep political divide.”

As of September, 92% of Democrats reported having had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine compared with 56% of Republicans.
