Report: Biden releasing Haitians into U.S. despite promises to return them home

The Daily Mail in the United Kingdom posted the blunt headline “BIDEN’S BORDER LIES” atop a report that charged the president, despite his assurances that thousands of Haitian illegal aliens camping at America’s southern border will be returned home, are being released into the United States.

The report cited “two U.S. officials with knowledge of the situation in Del Rio,” and said thousands of Haitians are being freed into the U.S. “on a ‘very, very large scale'” rather than being returned on deportation flights “as the Biden administration promised.”

As of last weekend, around 14,600 mostly Haitian migrants were camped out under a bridge after breaking into the U.S. from Mexico. Now, “thousands have been released into the U.S. with notices to appear at an immigration court in 60 days’ time,” the report said.

The numbers are uncertain, but Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas said 8,600 migrants still were in Del Rio as of Tuesday. By Wednesday, only 1,000 had been returned to Haiti.

That leaves questions about where were the other 5,000, the report said.

“This purported reality on the ground is drastically at odds with the public statements the Biden administration has made in recent days in an effort to get a handle on the ever-increasing migrant crisis at the U.S.’s southern border,” the report said. “The official line is that Haitians are being expelled from the U.S. back to the crisis-stricken Caribbean nation under a Donald Trump-era rule.”

It is federal law, Title 42, that allows migrants to be returned to their home nations without the option of asylum, because of COVID-19.

It was Alejandro Mayorkas, chief of the Department of Homeland Security, who claimed Monday that migrants coming into the U.S. illegally would be returned.

“If you come to the United States illegally, you will be returned, your journey will not succeed, and you will be endangering your life and your family’s life,” he said.

The report explained many of the Haitians actually left their own country after a 2010 earthquake and have been living in Brazil and Chile since, but are leaving those locations now because of COVID.

The report said a “U.S. official with direct knowledge of operations” told the AP that “thousands of Haitians had been freed on a ‘very, very large scale’ in recent days.”

A second official also confirmed that, but neither was identified in the report.

The report noted federal reports document how there were 4,395 Haitians caught along the southern border in 2020, and 2,046 in 2019. But since last October, more than 28,000 have been caught there.

Biden has been unable to please either Republicans or Democrats with his border crisis, the report said.
