A shooter at a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans Sunday night killed a man and injured four other people including a child, according to WWL.
An eyewitness claimed at least 12 shots were fired in the incident near the conclusion of the Krewe of Bacchus parade, the outlet reported. A young girl, a woman and three men were brought to the hospital with injuries, but one of the men ultimately died.

“We were able to find two weapons on scene and also apprehend what we believe to be the shooter,” New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) Deputy Chief Hans Ganthier said, without confirming whether the suspect had acted alone, according to WWL. “This is not something we wanted to see. We really wanted to be a safe Mardi Gras and we continue to work toward that end.”

Mardi Gras occurs on Tuesday, but events have already been held in New Orleans for more than a month as part of the 2023 parade schedule, according to USA Today.
The NOPD did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
